Knotting: beat the Leader

This week we were practicing knotting, which I am always trying to make fun and exciting to learn.

I laminated some pieces of paper and wrote the name of a knot at the top of each page.

Then I gave the girls a stop watch and a whiteboard marker and said that whoever could beat my best time for tying a reef knot could choose the next game we played. That was enough incentive to have them carry on with knotting for 20 minutes without coming to see me once!

I only timed myself for tying a reef knot, however, the girls chose to challenge themselves with three other knots, trying to beat their own scores.

It was an excellent activity and even better, so simple to put together!

We never ended up playing the game because nobody beat my time (although they didn't seem to mind). I'm hoping that the girl's will practice their knots at home this week now that they have the incentive of beating my time.
